Dental office managers know that things can change quickly around the office. Staying one step ahead is the key to success. For those office managers looking to expand their knowledge and improve office productivity, e-learning courses are the in-office or at-home solution.

Brandy Hoffman-Freeman, CDA, CDPMA, RDA, is an office consultant in Georgia. She has taken Accounts Receivable for the Dental Office and HR Fundamentals for the Dental Office. "I signed up for the courses to see the latest developments in the field," she says. "At this point in my career, I am a role model, so I need to be sure that I have the latest, most accurate information. I also believe in pushing myself and taking on new challenges, and these courses were a way to do that."

The DALE Foundation’s e-learning courses are also a great way to demonstrate knowledge and achievement to employers. The post-course assessment can be a useful tool for employee development plans. "Because I passed the course and have a Certificate of Completion to show for it, the doctor knows that I have a strong grasp of the information," Brandy says. "It also shows that I am motivated to continuously enhance my professional skills."

Danielle Dailey, FAADOM, works as a business coordinator at a dental office in Maryland. She took the Accounts Receivable for the Dental Office course to meet requirements to earn Fellowship in the American Association of Dental Office Managers (FAADOM). "I was determined to earn Fellowship because I knew it would help me reach my professional goals and allow me to be an asset to the practice in the long run," Danielle says. "I work in a large group practice with more than 50 employees. One day, I hope to be the administrator of the office."

Danielle says she enjoyed how interactive the courses were. "We had to complete the lessons and activities," she says. "This was the first time I had ever taken a course like that."

E-learning courses make staff training both time- and cost-efficient. "Because our practice is so large, we can’t shut down the office and send everyone to a seminar," Danielle notes. "With e-learning courses, staff can take the courses at home on their own time or carve out time during the work day."
