How To Prepare For DANB Exams

DANB offers five national certifications:

The national certifications are each built from component exams. Additionally, DANB offers exams leading to certificates of knowledge-based competence and state-specific dental assisting exams.

Once you’ve decided what DANB exams you want to take and perhaps even picked a testing date, you may be thinking ... now what?

Review the exam outline.

The exam outline covers all the topics you may find on the DANB exam. As you read through the list of topics, make a note of which topics you feel the most confident about, which topics you may need to brush up on, and the topics that might require a lot of extra studying. This can help you figure out where to start and how to prioritize.

The DALE Foundation’s study aids

The DALE Foundation, the official DANB affiliate, offers interactive, online courses and practice tests that can help you prepare for DANB exams on your own schedule. And, as an added bonus, DALE Foundation courses can also help you earn CDE credits.

Textbooks and other materials
If you went to school for dental assisting, you might have held on to your old textbooks and notes. These materials can be helpful when studying. DANB has also compiled a list of suggested textbooks and reference materials that you may find useful.
