Nebraska CDE Requirements

Dental assistants who assist in the administration of general anesthesia, deep sedation, moderate sedation or minimal sedation must be currently certified in basic life support skills (BLS) or the equivalent; dental assistants who monitor or administer nitrous oxide analgesia must be currently certified in Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.

There are no other CDE (Continuing Dental Education) requirements for dental assistants in Nebraska.

A bill enacted in 2017 created three new categories of dental assistant: Dental Assistants, Licensed Dental Assistants (LDAs) and Expanded Function Dental Assistants (EFDAs). The new law authorizes the dental board to define CE requirements for the LDA and EFDA levels of dental assistant. New rules implementing this new law are under development as of April 2018.

Please visit the LDA page and the EFDA page on the Nebraska Board of Dentistry’s website for updates.
