There are no radiography requirements for dental assistants in the state of Idaho.
All dental assistants may legally operate dental x-ray equipment and perform dental radiographic procedures.
Dental Assisting Job Titles and Requirements for Each Level
A dental assistant in the state of Idaho may perform basic supportive dental procedures specified by the state dental practice act under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist.
There are no education or training requirements for this level of dental assisting.
Dental Assistant Board-qualified in expanded functions
To perform expanded functions under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist in Idaho, a dental assistant must be considered Idaho Board qualified in expanded functions. To earn qualification, one must:
(1) Satisfactorily complete an Idaho Board-approved training in each of the expanded functions
(2) Satisfactorily complete training in the fundamentals of dental assisting, evidenced by:
(2a) Current national DANB certification
(2b) Successful completion of an Idaho Board-approved curriculum in the fundamentals of dental assisting
(2c) Successfully challenging the fundamentals course
(3) Successfully complete an Idaho Board approved competency exam in each of the expanded functions.
Dental assistants who have completed out-of-state expanded functions training may apply to the Idaho State Board of Dentistry to obtain approval of the course(s) and a certificate of registration.
