There are no radiography requirements for dental assistants in the state of Idaho.
All dental assistants may legally operate dental x-ray equipment and perform dental radiographic procedures.
Dental Assisting Job Titles and Requirements for Each Level
A dental assistant in the state of Idaho may perform basic supportive dental procedures specified by the state dental practice act under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist.
There are no education or training requirements for this level of dental assisting.
Dental Assistant Board-qualified in expanded functions
To perform expanded functions under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist in the state of Idaho, a dental assistant must be Idaho Board-qualified in expanded functions. To qualify, one must:
1a. Hold a current national DANB certification, OR
1b. Successfully complete an Idaho Board-approved course in the fundamentals of dental assisting OR successfully challenge the fundamentals course, AND
2. Successfully complete an Idaho Board-approved competency exam in each of the expanded functions.
*Dental assistants who have completed out-of-state expanded functions training may apply to the Idaho State Board of Dentistry to obtain approval of the course(s) and a certificate of registration.
